A day after burying his wife a man wakes in the middle of the night to find intruders in his home, with the intent to steal his car. In the fray his puppy is killed, and they inevitably make off with his car. The best way to surmise the following events of this film are as such: shit hits the fan in the most brutal, and visually eloquent ways imaginable.

This movie is one of the best movies I have seen in the past decade as per its genre. It's neo-noir/revenge/action-thriller at it's absolute best. There is a lot of insane camera work and editing that make the choreography of every action scene shine like cinematic gold, and that is due in part to the efforts of Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, veteran stunt men that have past ties with the Matrix and Keanu Reeves and attribute their approach to film making as highly influenced by both anime as well as martial arts movies.

The plot follows John (Reeves) and his rampage through everyone involved in an attempt to reclaim through bloody recompense that which was taken from him. And he does it, very, very well. John as it turns out is an unparalleled killing machine and a legend among the assassin cabal introduced in this film, and the unfolding events don't disappoint. There is some great world-building among tertiary characters that helped flesh out the scope of the world John inhabits, and while it will most certainly be expanded upon in the sequel, I will refrain from saying more, and just leave you with this-

Watch this movie. I love it so very much, and feel fortunate to have seen this when it was in theaters. It's a must-see; a truly badass and emotional revenge story with intense shoot out scenes that also features some really great music in tow and even some unexpected laughs....and you will love it.
